It was by chance that we ended up in Agra to celebrate our ten years together.
So we agreed that a visit to the Taj Mahal on our tenth anniversary would make a good celebration!
We woke up at 5am to be at the entrance at 6am. We are not early birds but the motivation to see the place in its pure essence with less tourists was enough. When the gates open, we finally arrived in front of the monument we had seen so many times in pictures.
Usually we don’t like to see pictures of the places we are about to visit. But one cannot avoid pictures of the Taj Mahal. We were a bit afraid to be disappointed. But truly no picture can reveal the beauty of the Taj Mahal. Delicately wrapped in the pinkish morning light, it was stunning! We sat in front of it, appreciating every moment of its contemplation.
- Where to sleep? Max’s Guesthouse, great place with a great owner, and don’t miss the awesome butter chicken cooked by his mother!
- What to do? We didn’t do much in Agra except visiting the Taj Mahal. Our ultimate advice for visiting the Taj Mahal is to go for sunrise. First there will be less people, but moreover the colors on the mausoleum will make it appear like a mirage in the soft light (see the comparison below). Your discovery will be even more magical.
From Agra, we did a day trip to Fatehpur Sikri which is really worth discovering.
